Great photos Helen! I loved it- brings back fond memories of 2009 trip.
I agree with you about the dogs and cats being an accepted part of the scenery. I never saw anybody being unkind to them in Turkey , unlike the Greek attitude that we saw in Cyprus when we were sitting at a roadside cafe. A small child was attempting to scare a cat into running into the road, with a lot of traffic, to the laughter and smiles of his parents.
have a look at http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v211/ ... 1QQtppZZ16 if you have time. If you need a password it's just 'ciderman'.

My best buy in Istanbul was a great 'Lawrence of Arabia' style bit of headwear!

Image

I've posted this in small, as I look just awful! All of the 3 mornings I woke there, my eyes were all puffed up so I could hardly see!! It went down after a while, but left me with terrible bags under my eyes. :( I was told it was because I was dehydrated, although I was drinking a lot of water. My room was stifling & the air conditioning didn't work; but at night I couldn't open the window as the AC unit was right outside it & made one hellova noise! :x As soon as I got home, the eye problem disappeared.

This headwear was particularly useful on the boat trip up the Bosphorus, as it was very cold & windy!

I had awful trouble with my eyes while there. Every morning, I woke with such puffy eyes that I just had slits to see out of! :| It went down after a bit, but left me with terrible bags under them! :(
As soon as I got home, this prob disappeared.

There was a 6.0 Richter earthquake in western Turkey on 19th May, with a 3.8 tremor felt 15 minutes beforehand & 450 aftershocks!!!
It was felt in Istanbul

I hope, for their sakes, it doesn't go on as long as Christchurch. They've had over 5000 aftershocks!
