I spotted a Solos holiday to Malta that I might like to take advantage of, in February, but it said age group; 30 - 59.
Meaning...it covers 30 years! I asked whether, being 68, I could be included in this trip, to be told that they have previously had 'complaints' from customers that the age group criteria were not adhered to so I couldn't go to this one. (People actually complain about things like this??)
I'm quite sure that a 30 year old looks on a 68 year old exactly the same as a 59 year old!! OLD!!
I think that's pretty weird and anyway - isn't that age discrimination??

Maybe it's really a dating agency in disguise!

Agism makes my soul go grrrr!! But having said that, there are some cruises (Paul probably knows what companies are best) here in the state is Vantage Travel with a UK rep @ Here.

No matter what the company is, we found cruising with my folx & advanced ages of unwellness was an absolute blessing. You got to see things of interest & made friends from all over the world, when we only intended to protect them. Frankly, the last one we took in 1999-where we were the youngest on board had the perfect amount of land trips for us younguns. We had to run to keep up with the seniors.

I was just thinking that now the jolly old EU has declared age discrimination to be OUT - insurance companies can not now charge women less then men - then surely a travel agency can't tell you not to go because you're 9 years over the stipulated age!



Can I sue them for a breach of Human Rights??

I'm hummimg & ha-ing about this Solos hol in Turkey in May - it looks quite good value for money. What think you? Undecided as I've already been to Turkey, although not to this area.

It reads O K and, not too expensive.

Checked a map; unfortunately, it's not a day trip away from Göbekli Tepe.

Torre I would love to visit Göbekli Tepe, but it's miles from anywhere!

Helen we holidayed in Ovacik for several years, tho it has grown since those days. Olu Deniz lagoon used to be my favourite place to swim, beautiful! We used to go to a little cafe on a deserted beach on the non-touristy side of the lagoon. When we visited for the day 3 years ago, that 'deserted beach' was crammed with sunbeds, a fast food place and brits eating full English breakfast .....with BEER!

I think there's not much at Ovacik apart from hotels & restaurants. But it's only a short dolmus ride to Hisaronu & Olu Deniz in one direction & Fethiye in the other. Hisaronu is very commercialised, aimed at Brits - there used to be a pub called the Queen Vic (or the Rovers Return, can't remember which).
Having said all that, the area is beautiful, nearby Fethiye is a really nice town with the marina, the little streets & shops in the old town, spice bazaar and the fish market where you choose your fish and the restaurants will cook it for you. You can do a trip to Kaya Köyü ('ghost village' deserted since the Greeks were forced out), 12 islands boat trip etc. Or you could go paragliding off Baba Dag mountain!

My friend went on a singles holiday to Ovacik last year I wonder if it was the same hotel.

The rock tombs & the Salikent Gorge were what attracted me!
Not really a beach person any more.

My going will depend on the outcome of this little chap as I've put in an application for him, but have to wait & see what happens, as there are other folks after him.

Saklikent Gorge is amazing! Tho I thought I was gonna meet my doom crossing the fast flowing water hanging onto the rope!
Some tours to Saklikent also go to the restaurant at Yakapark, Tlos - where the trout swim past the tables. If you can stand in their pool for 5 mins you get a free drink, 15 mins and your meal & drink is free. I lasted less than 2 mins before being completely numb. The pool is served by icy cold spring water coming down from the mountain.

We never went up to the Fethiye rock tombs. Dalyan is a good place to go for rock tombs

I got the new 2013 Solos catalogue today - blimey, there's hardly a holiday under a grand!! Even to Tunisia for 7 days!!!
It cost £550 when I went!!
