:D I'm off to Finland for a few days on 23rd September! I have a friend whom I knew on the IoW, who was originally Finnish, and went back to live there about 6 years ago - I haven't seen her since then.

You mad, impetuous thing, you. Is that the same Finn who used to post here occasionally?

I don't think so. Riitta has never joined the forum. Be careful, Torre, you will be next on my list next spring!

Riitta will be here in the UK this month, saying ta-ra to her son who is going to Australia, and we're flying back on the same flight. She has her car at Helsinki airport, so we will drive together to her home village, which is way out in the Finnish sticks! Her partner has offered to drive me to the airport on the return journey (prolly glad to see the back of me!! :lol!: ) This was the deciding factor for me, as the big prob was always transport to her home & back.

I only have 5 days there (don't want to overstay my welcome) so will have to pack in as much as I can!

Map of the little town I'm going to here (Anjalankoski).

I would have liked to take the day ferry over to Tallinn in Estonia (Riitta says it's lovely there - and cheap!!) but I don't think there'll be time for that.

Must think about getting some euros! :o

I've just been talking to my friend on the phone, and she's told me her partner in Finland is not very well. A couple of days after she left, he suddenly felt really tired & weary, and lost the sight in one eye! He rested for a bit & got his sight back, then had a check up with a doc in A&E. They did tests but couldn't find anything wrong. So after a couple more days, he went back to work, driving car etc...then it happened again - a feeling of tremendous tiredness, but without eye problems this time. She's really worried & wonders if it's been a mild stroke. I do hope he's OK - he's only 52.

This has happened to two of my friends-one 53 another 28...
both found they had congenital holes in their hearts.
Divine timing on your visit,
are you bringing back any t-shirts?
love,

That's interesting. I googled that & found references to it. Did your friends have both the symptoms, Linny - tiredness & temporary blindness in one eye?

Yes. Then, because the symptoms weren't considered severe enough for additional testing, an added feature occurred....going numb on one side for both & the inability to speak coherently for the other.

That got the allopaths attention...all sorts of tests that found the small (and very common) hole--which today is relatively easily fixed using (forgive my lack of medical terminology....can't remember it right now) those little teeny laparscopy's that were designed for children. Very least invasive repair and good to go.

Hope it ain't so-but was compelled to offer this experience.
Have a safe and healing trip-give them our love, will send reiki for highest good for all,
lots of love,
linnyx

Thank you, Linny. I will talk to her more about this in the next few days. She has to find out more stuff from him, and as I can't speak Finnish & he can't speak English, the translation & all may take time.

See you all when I get back. :)
