What is so special about Ulverston I hear you cry?

Well, several things I reply.

Firstly, this ..........

Image

Yup! Laurel & Hardy. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel.

Also it has a lovely Carnival

Image

the 'Carnival Master' at the head of the procession (following a Police van)

Then the first band

then the Mountain Rescue
Image

the Coastguard

Rambo

Dance troupe
Image

the drumming band

Image

a pipe band
Image

the Carnival Queen on a flat bed pony cart (it had to stop until all of the proceeding events had reached the top of the hill and then take a run at it - apparently it failed to get up the hill in one go last year when it stopped half way up  )

Image

a dray from the local brewery
Image

then the Dragon (it has the replica of a lighthouse on its nose which is a memorial on the hill overlooking the town and is its emblem)

Image

the dragon was lead by a penny whistler and a drummer

Image

I know it was a dragon 'cos it was dragon its tail on the road.
Image

the procession went up the hill and then came back into the centre of the town by another road and I managed to get all of the entrants again.

NO I AM NOT GOING TO POST ALL OF THEM AGAIN.

The only photo of this second lot that I amgoing to add here is the Fire Engine with a 'clown' driving it with a dog as co-pilot.

That's Ulverston as we saw it.
