How did you like Capri?

Which did you prefer, Pompeii or Herculaneum? I really wanted to see the latter but it wasn't open to visitors in '99. The archaeological abstracts said the level of preservation was superior due to the encapsulation of lava. Really enjoyed/was moved at Pompeii.

Capri was lovely. We had a boat trip round the island looking at the rock formations then we went to Capri town and Anacapri and had a chairlift ride to the top of the mountain. The electric cars/buggies in Anacapri were fascinating.

Herculaneum was very interesting and many of the wall decorations had been left in-situ and had not been removed to the museum, as at Pompeii. Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii because they are only able to ecavate about 25% of it. There are those that say Herculaneum is better than Pompeii but I found both extremely interesting as Pompeii, being more or less a whole town, gave a much better display of the layout of the houses, road system, forum, etc.

If I can find the time - because Gill is keeping me very busy - I will try to upload some photos which I have to get off her iPad (It is lighter than my camera and takes better pictures  )
