Mostar Bridge. It was there for hundreds of years then got destroyed in the war and was rebuilt. There's an annual tradition for the young men to chuck themselves off the bridge into the river, and it's REALLY high! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mostar_bridge |

PS just noticed you said Zagreb too. I have only one memory of Zagreb and one word to sum it up - grim! We went by coach to Greece in 1977 and got held up in Zagreb when armed police came on the bus and made us sit outside in August sun for 3 hours, surrounded by miles of 'orrible concrete tower blocks, with no Yugoslavian money to even buy water. I'm sure it's improved since then!

I've been assured that I can use euros in both Croatia & Bosnia, so that ought to get round the currency exchange problem, as they're different in both countries! I'm getting quite excited - it's only 3 weeks away!

Don't tempt me. Gill has a very significant birthday at the end of this month and would like to go to Croatia - particularly Zagreb - but M i L caring seems to have taken over our lives at the moment  .Perhaps we'll get away later in the year. |

A friend of mine who likes to go to unusual places showed me a travel brochure of a castle (now a hotel, I think) on a lake somewhere in that region. I suspect the castle is famous, like the bridge, but I dunno. It was gorgeous. That was the year she was also considering Tunisia. She hasm't been to either place. |

I'm watching an episode of Lewis on ITV, and the sidekick - Hathaway - is on a working holiday in Croatia, helping to rebuild houses etc. Lewis phones him to ask for help in an investigation, and asks him 'what's the time difference?' Hathaway replies 'about a century.' It made me smile because I knew exactly what he meant!  Some Croatia/Bosnia pics to follow... |

My first loo experience in Croatia..  Mistletoe on a tree at the foot of the Pyramid of the Sun in Visoko, Bosnia.  View from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun (1000m above sea level). The ridge on the other side is out of bounds as there are so many unexploded landmines still lying around!

View from the Pyramid of the Moon, not as high as the Sun. Bosnia is a very green country.  Froggy in the Zagreb Botanical Gardens.  Yours truly in Zagreb with Marko Marulic.  (google him)

Lovely pics, Helen. Did the loo come with instructions? I'm afraid I wouldn't know what to do with it. I'd love to see more pics. The only travelling I get to do is in my imagination and your pics help. |
