Thanks for all your nice comments. :)

Gill is very well at the moment, thanks Lynn, and keeping up her regime with the mistletoe injections and masses of supplements as well as regular healing and reflexology treatments.

Linny, the massive works at the Duomo in Sienna are the renovation of the dome of the Duomo.

Two more shots of Pisa for you which make the Leaning Tower - the bell tower of the Pisa Duomo - look a little bit bigger.

The Baptistry and the Duomo from the other direction (have you noticed the the Baptistry roof is stone clad this side and tiled the other?)
Image

I'm in there looking at the Leaning Tower

The whole works at Pisa are in one small piazza - the Baptistry, the Duomo, the Bell Tower (leaning) and the Cemetery - all surrounded by modern industrial Pisa.

Lovely Paul, thanks. I didn't know the leaning tower was a bell tower.
It's like a tongue-twister - the Dome of the Duomo, the Piazza at Pisa. Did you eat pizza in the piazza at pisa?
glad to hear Gill is keeping well.

Gill looks so beautiful-her aura is whole. That gives me such great peace. Give her and yourself hugs.
I wanted to share with you how meaningful your trip has been to us.

As a young woman-trying to find her way thru university trying to fathom her way thru fine arts in the '70's..it was a difficult time. I found peace in Art History class, studying these very places-reconoitering the genius of architecture. It soothed my soul and paved heavenly paths to become a musician and jeweler-against all odds, of education and engineering parentage (thank goodness of minxy phyllix and bob).

My folx took a trip together on these very same streets that you so beautifully share...it reminds me, that there is a divine purpose that connects us all,
a zillion more words not said,
hearts open,
love,

We thought about it but we didn't. Pizza is the only thing that gives both of us indigestion. :( - so we had a crusty ham and cheese roll instead (the crust of which cut my lip  )

oh Paul you disappoint me, as did my friend who had lunch in Sandwich in Kent and chose a mexican tortilla wrap. So,,, basically you had a cheese & ham sandwich in the piazza in Pisa, my friend had a mexican wrap in Sandwich - anyone had a pizza in Mexico?

sorry I am digressing but this reminds me of a Rolling Stones story ... when they played in Frankfurt someone threw a hotdog on stage and Keith Richards slipped on the frankfurter, then in Hamburg he slipped on a hamburger
just went on google to verify that I'd got this story right, can you believe here it is on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew0g4aVI0Hc

anyway back to Italy. My great-great-grandparents were from Italy before they moved to Paris, so I've always wanted to visit, tho I have no idea which part they came from.
Any more pics please?

In response to your requests here are 12 more shots from our holiday. Some of them are slightly different views of what you have already seen.

The interior of the Baptistry at Pisa (from the gallery)
Image

The outside of the Cemetery at Pisa
Image

The inside of the Duomo at Pisa
Image

Another shot of the inside of the Duomo at Pisa
Image

Inside the Duomo at Siena
Image

More of the inside of the Duomo at Siena
Image

Vinci (YOU KNOW - where Leonardo came from)
Image

The little piazza outside the Leonardo Exhibition in Vinci
Image

Florence - the baptistry(foreground) the Giotto bell tower and the Duomo
Image

the inside of the Dome of the Duomo in Florence. The rest of the inside was bare marble - most disappointing.
Image

A Buddha in the Palazzo Strozzi, Florence
Image

The copy of David in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence. (Er - he is the one on the plinth  )
Image

It IS strange that the Cathedrals - sorry, Duomos - in most of these towns were built of bands of white and dark green marble. Some of them had frescos on their walls and others had inlaid marble floors with religious 'pictures' and yet the most recognised, in Florence, was almost bare of any decorations at all. :?

These are what I consider to be the best of all of our photos and do not intend to post any more - so enjoy. :)

Thanks, Torre.

(As you are probably aware 'Torre' is the Italian for 'tower'. I believe that that describes you perfectly. :) )

Great photographs Paul, I bet some of them gave you a stiff neck, or was you laying on your back.

I didn't get a stiff neck, Arfa, or lie on the floor. 8)

I just looked up through my view finder (the back screen of our old digital camera uses up too much battery power), switched off the flash and, with one arm resting on a column or other solid part of the building, held my breath and pressed the button - and - there were the inside photos. The few times I forgot to switch off the flash gave relatively useless interior photos.

I used to have my father's monopod but think I gave it away. I have my father-in-law's tripod but it is too bulky to carry around - specially when flying RyanAir! Tripods are banned in most of the churches in Tuscany because of the possibility of damaging the wonderful marble floor pictures.

We really must get a camera with a zoom lens, anti-shake and video facillity. :|

Did you give it to a bloke called David? I think I caught a glimpse of it in the photo.
