Getting ready this weekend for 3 weeks away in the caravan. Going up to Somerset (Watchet) and then on to Morhoe on Retired Caravanners rallies. Busy getting clothes, food and equipment etc ready. We will use our new inflatable awning for the first time on this trip, so that should be fun. We are leaving on Monday morning and as it is only 102 miles away should be there around lunchtime. Hope the weather is good. Looking forward to riding the Minehead Steam Railway.

Busy summer of caravanning arranged so far with a week at Launceston Steam Rally, week at Royal Cornwall Show and a week at Boconnoc Steam Fair. At the Steam Rallies we organised the caravan parking. At Royal Cornwall we do Information and Mother & Baby Tent. Planning to take September out to tour the east coast as we have already done most of south and west coasts. Perhaps 3 weeks in Wales mid summer on a Retired Caravanners Rally.

If you have to travel, that's a good way to do it--take the comforts of home with you. Have fun.

Sounds fabulous GK. Hope you have a great time.

I might try to get to one of the steam rallies, sometimes they have the old fairground organs that my great-grandad used to import into England.

PS just checked the dates & Launceston is same weekend as Exmouth Festival, which we had planned to go to. maybe we'll make it to Boconnoc in July, it would be great to meet you!

The name Boconnoc fascinated me! Had to google it to see where it was.
It sounds to me like one of those Native American names that you hear a lot in the US! :)

I also had to google Boconnoc, it's only 1.5 hours from here, near to places I've visited, but I never heard of it before!

Boconnoc is a private estate so you can only see it when an event is on but it's well worth seeing. Cut short our holiday as we did not fancy a wet weekend at the next rally in Ilfracombe, a place we dislike anyway. Will write later about our trip, got to catch up on paperwork first.

Set off up the A30 in bright sunshine, a few caravans on the M5 going the other way. Arrived at the most delightful site on a farm with lovely big pitches and lots of nice trees. Had fun putting up the new inflatabe awning which including unpacking took 2 hours but delighted with it and the extra space it gave us. Most of the time was spent in sunshine although cold at night. Went everywhere, Minehead, Porlock, Taunton, Tiverton, etc. Visited some National Trust properties at Knightshaye, Fynn Court, Coleridge Cottage, but best of all Dunster Castle and Dunster Village. We found some beautiful out of the way places live Selworthy with its green surrounded by thatched cottages which was National Trust. Bossington with its lovely Tea Room. Klive beach was the nearest with a ruin being restored and lovely Tea Room. The group got Terry a birthday cake for his birthday at a social evening, we won the Games event and even saw a film (The Imagination Game) in a village hall. Would we go again, definitely yes, a lovely part of the country.
