After the recent upset I just had to get away and we took the caravan up to Frome which we had never been to before for a week. What a beautiful area, so many pretty villages. We loved Frome itself and also Devizes, Trowbridge all of which are towns with a lot of character and independent shops.

We did some National Trust places like Woodland Manor a beautiful small Tudor House. We visited Ifield Manor which had the most magnificent garden. We found a pub called the Barge Inn on the Kennet & Avon canal by following a brown sign from the main road and while walking along the towpath there a boot owner told us about a nearby flight of 23 locks at Caen Hill which we visited and it was amazing. These locks were all in a straight line going down (or up) a hill.

Spent a day at Longleat which was great fun especially going around the Safari Park on a double decker bus watching the monkey take bits of cars, they like the new parking sensors and were busy trying to get these out on a few cars. A car driver does have the option to by-pass the monkeys. You saw a lot more from the bus and also got a commentary which was funny and informative.

Your trips epitomize what I think England to be like.

Sounds lovely GK, another area to put on our 'must visit' list :)

We will certainly go back there again. Can recommend Barrow Farm Caravan site at Rode, its delightful place to stay and they had holiday cottages.
