Just been counting my litas. Discovered I don't have enough to pay everything here! So I tried at reception to see if my debit card would be accepted....and it was! Hoorah!! I first tried with my CC...and couldn't remember the pin number!! (How about that for an oversight?? I really should have checked it out before I left!! )

B&B OK, receptionist lovely with very good English, breakfast offered, amongst other things, pickled herrings!! Ooer - at 8.30am! But the rest, with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, was great.

Must go now - maid wants to clean the room! Hasta la vista.

I like fish for brekkers, kippers or kedgeree. I suspect pickled herrings would be a step too far. They would start reminding you of their presence from mid morning onwards.
Pleased all is well in Lithuania, stay safe.

I'll eat the herrings. :) Have a great time, see you soon, and as Drew says stay safe.

glad the journey went well & your card is accepted & the accomodation is ok. I remember being given "carp caviar" for breakfast in Turkey once. oh well, when in Rome / Turkey / Lithuania, what the hell, bring it on! great that you have internet access. Hope the dowsing seminar is good, looking forward to your photos.

Well.....just discovered there's internet access here in this place in Druskininkai! This is where the conference is being held.

The weather's been scorchio till last night, when it started to tip with rain & only stopped about an hour ago. I played hookey this morning :) slept in, had a shower & washed my hair etc. The conference has turned into a place for those who speak & understand Russian & Baltic languages. Yesterday we had 'simultaneous translation' with earphones which, at times was good, and at other times...not!! Today we don't. Just someone who thinks he can speak English translating what has been said, and it's most confusing. It's very frustrating for the English speakers. I've met a couple of really nice people though, men & women. I hope it doesn't rain for the field trip tomorrow.

Miss Lulu, miss my garden......am I getting old??

Nearly lunchtime now and anyway, the scroll button on this mouse doesn't work! (I'm eating far too much!!!)

Later!

What is the food like ? Are you eating to live or living to eat ? It all sounds very interesting, hope the field trip does not require the serious use of wellies. What is the local tipple ?

Lovely to hear from you in Lithuania. :)

I stayed well away from the internet while I was in Italy - even though there was an Internet Cafe advertising free internet only about one kilometre from our apartment.

It made a nice change not to be seated at a keyboard.

Have a lovely field trip and good dowsing.

Hehe....the latest hiccup!!! :)

The bus was due to pick us up at 8am for the field trip...but it broke down apparently! They can't sort it & are desperately trying to find another one to substitute it.... (It's now 10am!)

We're told the 'the same bus as the first time" (ie the tiny one where we were all packed like sardines!!!) will come to give us a 'mini-tour' of Drusininkai.

Watch this space....... :silly:

Well......there is so much to say about Lithuania that I don't know where to start really!! :) For a country that just came 'out of the dark' 13 years ago, it's amazing.

Starters: here's the part of the spa hotel where I stayed for the conference at Druskininkai...my room was on the first floor, second window from the left. :)

Image

And this is the pond & fountain just in front of the main door of the hotel proper - I caught it with a rainbow! ...

Image

Druska means salt, and it's a spa famous for the mineral salts in its waters.
