Great pictures of a place I have only ever read about. The pyramid carry on sounds just too much.

I forgot to say that we were supplied with bits of mistletoe, which grows on birch trees there (we saw it growing)! :) But their mistletoe doesn't have berries apparently! I just remembered because I found a shrivelled up piece in a pocket!

This is a place near a road, which was described to us first as a 'meeting point for witches' in olden days....then we were told the monument is to commemorate the deaths of Lithuanian resistence fighters who fought a running battle there with the Russians after they took over the country after the war!! :o

This may seem run-of-the-mill to you, but bear in mind there were quite a few Russians in the group, and memories are long & resentments bitter!!! I thought it was rather brave to say these things! But I suppose they have to be said now....

It's carved in wood, of course.

I often mused during the time I spent there, how many of the participants tried to see things from a Lithuanian's point of view & not only their own.

At one point, we stopped off at a river whose name I can't remember

and down on the bank, I spotted what I thought were butterflies skimming over the top of the water. On closer inspection, they turned out to be dragonflies! They were very big, and a deep blue all over, including the wings! That was why I'd thought they were butterflies! I tried my damnedest to get a good pic, but they wouldn't sit still for more than a few seconds...

This was the best I could do, and it makes it look black. But it is blue, honest, and has two sets of enormous wings. (And I got my shoes covered in mud. ) I can't seem to find anything like it on the net - they all seem to have transparent wings, and these weren't.
