I'm getting to be like them,
I never thought I would,
My friends all said impossible.
I never, ever could.

But I am getting to be like them,
It really is quite true,
I hear it in the things I say,
And in the things I do.

They think today is yesterday
They think the day is night,
And never know the time of day,
And never get things right.

They say they went out walking,
I said, "Where did you venture?
They look at me as if I'm mad,
They think it's me that's got dementia!

I cannot keep apace with them,
So many things they do,
I'm sure I'm getting like them,
I think, they think so too.

Bill comes each week on Friday,
To give his wife a rest,
And soon he starts undressing,
Right down to pants and vest.

When he unzips his trousers,
He asked if I could help.
I ask him what he wants of me,
He says, "Undo my belt."

He says, "I need my trousers off,
"I think it's time for bed,
I say, "I cannot help you,
"You're doing in my head,"

Then Fay says she is pregnant,
Dot says, "It will do you good",
Poor Ben has got the blame,
He's the only one who could.

They are both in their nineties,
So how could this occur?
It might be possible for him,
But a miracle for her.

They say I'm bound for Australia,
Of this I am unaware.
I'll have to disappoint them,
As I haven't got the fare.

Some times some of them fall out,
And have a few harsh words,
They say, "Mind your own business",
And other nouns and verbs.

Eva can't stand Connie,
And Connie can't stand her,
And when they get together,
There's a lot of flying fur.

Sometimes it gets quite out of hand,
And there's a real bad row.
It happened just that way tonight,
When Ben called Eva a cow!.

Nora talks about her dog,
And hopes he's being cared for.
I say, "I'm sure he's quite alright,
"and couldn't ask for more."

She's worried that he's all alone,
As they can't always be there,
I say, "There's lots of them to help,
"they all will do their share."

She talks and talks about her dog,
She's getting quite upset,
She says the only thing to do,
Is go and phone the Vet.

I ask her what his name is,
She says, "Why do you ask me that?"
"Why do you think I've got a dog?"
"I don't even have a cat!"

Bill say's, "I need your initials,
"I want to write my will,"
I said, "That's quite alright with me,
But don't send me the bill!"

I'll join them with the fairies,
One day I am quite sure.
I'll talk like them in riddles,
And get like them more and more.

So come quite soon to see me,
While I keep fairly sane,
For when I am quite ga-ga,
You won't wish to come again.

That's great!
Reminds me of visiting my dad in respite care - an old dear struggled to walk half way across the room with her zimmer, turned round in about a 16 point turn, walked 2 steps, stopped, looked around confused and wailed "I don't know where I'm going". Then my brother drove me back to his house and we went thru a bit of Stockport that I didn't recognise at all, even tho I've been down that road many times all my life, I got really confused as to where we were and where it led to :? gawd help me if I ever get to that lady's age!!

d'you mean Paddy's real name? someone called Paddy used to post here, from Cornwall.
edit - yeah I think you meant her real name, I'm having another senior moment.

I loved that Thais and wish I could have known "Paddy."
I have just got round to reading some of the poems on here and I thoroughly enjoyed that. :D :D :D

Quite coincidentally, I've found an email from Paddy to me dated 2005, where Paddy asked to be unsubscribed fom HH!

Freda & Chris were good buddies, don't know about Paddy.

My "Ha" just meant, "imagine that."

There was another Paddy - Paddy Doyle posted briefly a long time ago, he was working alongside Chris promoting the dystonia charity.
