I woke up this morning, & glanced at the dog.
There she was sleeping, as sound as a log.
Still alive, I could see, as her chest was still moving -
My eyesight's not bad & is even improving.
Thank goodness you're there, I thought with much pleasure
You're only a wee thing, but surely a treasure.
You give me good reason to start off the day
A pee in the garden - yours, not mine, I must say!
Your hair looks like mine, pretty scruffy & wild
We could just be mistaken for mother & child!
You need me, I know it, and I need you too
To care for & nurture, and take to the loo.
You are part of my world, an extension of being
And this is a truth I don't mind guaranteeing.
Just writing these words has been pure motivation..
Let's hope that this feeling will have long duration.
I hope when you leave & end up in the 'basement'
I won't need to worry about hip replacement!!
