This is simply hysterical....I was worried for a minute when Prince lost his brick. Did they just have random bricks laying aboust or did hubs have to have a walkabout looking for one? What a beautiful dog and what a beautiful set of people he owned, it's so sweet that he'd be given a new brick... somehow, bricks will never be the same again- they'll be reminders of PRINCE. love ya Maisie, and yer stories. xox

Hi Linny. We were lucky at the time to get a brick to replace the one "PRINCE" had lost in the canal because the riverside pub was having an extension built. The owner of the pub said that we could take one. The best of it was the owner of the pub laughed thinking hubby was joking when hubby said it was for the dog to carry. He just could not believe his eyes. He said he had NEVER ever seen a dog carrying a house brick in its mouth before especially a dog the size of "PRINCE." There was much laughter that day with what had happened and with onlookers watching, plus the look of wonder on their faces when the dog got a new brick. We still have a giggle over that incident even after all these years. Glad you enjoyed the tale. I will sort the third tale out about "PRINCE" and his pals.

of course their would be more adventures of PRINCE!!!! Really-these would make a wonderful children's book, what a LOT of characters, a good lesson, that one's man's brick is another dog's comfort, laffing so hard I can't believe it... thank you for this gift, love linnyx

Hello Linny. Its sometime since I called in here and lovely to see that you can still get a laugh out of "Prince" and his antics. I am at the moment looking after my lovely daughter-in-law who has had a mastectomy. She had her breast off nearly a fortnight ago but is coming to me each day so that I can keep my on her to help her shower and wash her hair. She has to go back to see the surgeon this Thursday to see if the cancer is all out and also to find out what treatment she will be having. Its a traumatic time for us because d-i-l is exactly the same age that her mother was when she had cancer. Unfortunately her lovely Mum died from it. I will call in when I can and if I get time I will sort out one or two more stories from my book. God Bless. Maisie

So that's why you've been on my mind so much Maisie!!! Just couldn't stop thinxing about you and your family. Will it be alright if I send you all a little reiki in my prayer time? This is very big for you all and how fortunate it is that you have each other. Will you mind posting how she's doing (with her permission of course-cause we love her too). Will they do DNA testing because of her mother, is that available in the UK? So glad you checked in, sending lots of love, linnyx

Hi Linny, Bless you for contacting me. It would be lovely of you to include reiki in you prayer time for her and thankyou for thinking of her. Its been a gruelling time and we will know more on Thursday 20th of this month. She is coping with it quite well but needs a bit of help when showering and having her hair washed. I am intrigued with what you mentioned about DNA testing. I cant say that I have ever heard of that here. Tell me more about it please or point me in the right direction. Maisie xxxx

Maisie, here's the nuts & bolts: Recently it has been shown that genetic predisposition accounts for five to ten percent of ovarian and breast cancers. Mary-Claire King and associates, in 1990, localized the first major susceptibility gene for breast and ovarian cancer on chromosome 17 and have referred to it as BRCA1 (BR=Breast and CA=Cancer). Since that time BRCA2, which predisposes its carriers predominately to breast cancer, has also been isolated.

Many thanks Torre for that explanation. Is that where the DNA comes in. I dont think that its done over here. I have never heard anyone saying that they had this sort of testing. I will have to have a word with my niece because she is into nursing to see if anything like that is being done here.

It's common enough over here for some women to have "pre-emptive" mastectomies, just on the chance they might develop cancer. It's controversial. Linny will tell you more.

Torre has done a perfect job of 'splaining things (just love that gettingness)...If your blessed d-i-l, and she is so blessed to have you helping her wash her hair and self, if you can find a cancer treatment center that knows how to test her DNA, they can figure out additional treatments. The best I can say is-my friend Jules got stage four breast cancer (age 38), metastized in her sterum and the sentinel lymph nodes. They tested her DNA and found she didn't have the genetic type. So her treatment regime was completely differentiated....chemo, tamoxifen and radiation...end result....no double mastectomy and cancer free after a year. If she had tested positive genetically-they would have removed them both and changed the treatments. Since I got the cancer thingy in my family history, went to genetic counseling-didn't have the moo-lah for the DNA tests (1990) so it doesn't matter too much. Life is a crap shoot for me. But-if I did get diagnosed with breast cancer you can bet that I'd be paying for DNA testing. If it came up yes-I'd have 'em whacked off in a heartbeat. Wudn't waste a minute with all the surgical reconstruction, salvation techniques, etc. I asked them at the time if it there was even a question-didn't it make sense to take 'em off while I was "healthy?" They thot I was freeking nutz. In the meantime-I'll be praying and sending reiki (such as a retired brokedown tiredgirl can send-relying on the love of our Adorer to restore) a whole lot. I get to take prayer breaks at work. Doesn't get better than that-but I disguise them as smoke breaks, how's that for irony? chomping and carrying the brick, something very sacred about having bricklips, xoxox

Thanks for the explanation of the DNA. I did not realise that its your way of saying heredity I must be getting old or so worried I cant take much in. I think we have been at cross purposes because my d-i-l has had all the tests done. She is very worked up now because she has to go to the hospital tomorrow to find out whether the cancer has all been taken away and what other treatment she will be having. I am praying that things are not always as black as they seem. It been a very traumatic time so we will need all the healing prayers and reiki and get her through this. Thanks for your support. Hello Linny. Its lovely to hear from you and I had a giggle at your posting. Things are going nicely here thankyou. My d-i-l has stated back to work for a few hours a day. Her employers are very considerate and realise that she has to recuperate completely before taking too much on. 2009 is a big year for hubby and myself because its our Diamond wedding anniversary this year so we are planning a big 'do' for family and friends. That is if the Lord spares us. We have a lot of practising to do if we have to dance the Anniversary Waltz at our get together especially with us both propping ourselves up with a walking stick.
