Not really a poem, a song by The Waterboys but I find it very poetic

Man gets tired
Spirit don’t
Man surrenders
Spirit won’t
Man crawls
Spirit flies
Spirit lives
When man dies

Man seems
Spirit is
Man dreams
The spirit lives
Man is tethered
Spirit free
What spirit
Is man can be

Listen to it here.

I like the sentiment, the singing is...well...awful.

Lol

I like the "singing" - though I understand how it could be an acquired taste  The lyrics to many of their songs have a spiritual quality though. My favourite is still "The Whole of the Moon".

I pictured a rainbow
you held it in your hands
I had flashes
but you saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
while you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
you saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon
You were there at the turnstiles
with the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
and you know how it feels
To reach too high
too far
Too soon
you saw the whole of the moon
I was grounded
while you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truths
you cut through lies
I saw the rain-dirty valley
you saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
you saw the whole of the moon
I spoke about wings
you just flew
I wondered, I guessed, and I tried
you just knew
I sighed
but you swooned
I saw the crescent
you saw the whole of the moon

With a torch in your pocket
and the wind at your heels
You climbed on the ladder
and you know how it feels
To reach too high
too far
Too soon
you saw the whole of the moon

Unicorns and cannonballs,
palaces and piers,
Trumpets, towers, and tenements,
wide oceans full of tears,
Flag, rags, ferry boats,
scimitars and scarves,
Every precious dream and vision
underneath the stars
You climbed on the ladder
with the wind in your sails
You came like a comet
blazing your trail
Too high
too far
Too soon
you saw the whole of the moon

Absolutely beautiful, every single syllable Janey-thank u for posting that.
(Thais-didn't that guy sound alot like Dylan-and does that make me an idiot? A Torre answer: no.  A linnyx answer: well, maybe-but for other reason's than an opine about Dylan's singing ability...oh no-I'm channelling again   ).

Love the words so much-want to live them,
with Persian flying carpets like Lynn has,
love,

I've liked the waterboys for many years too :D
agree Dylan-ish linny (Nige is playing Dylan as I write), waterboys manifested long before the nocturnal flying carpet but they go with the general flow

Aha! Somehow I knew you'd like The Waterboys, Lynn. I've always liked "The Whole of the Moon", I think of it as "my" song because I used to tell my mum when I was little that I could see the whole of the moon when it wasn't full. She told me it was just an optical illusion but I'm still positive I can see it a lot of the time. When I first heard the song I thought "Hey, someone who knows what I'm on about." I've only recently, the last couple of years, listened to some of their other stuff. I used to mainly listen to American rock which has some great music but I've expanded my musical horizons in recent years. I'm really into celtic influenced music at the moment, loving Damien Rice and Damien Dempsey.

Furthermore Janey-it's not me that's an angel....altho, it didn't hurt my feelings a bit for that reciprocal love.

But anyone who can see the darkened moon as full is a gifted, thoughtful and important part of why the goodness of the world insists on being brought forth. Being an older idealist, who sometimes gets cynical-when I see an important & talented "seer," it must be exhorted...for often, they do not know what they do.

That statement has been used mostly to identify peeps who do things that are harmful....but, it is imperative to me that beautiful people who think and just act on their orginally inborn beauty-must be identified. I see the truth of who you and all that have been cosmically collected together here. They are so incredibly important and beautiful. Wish you all could see yourself through my eyes-and then you would have reason to celebrate your wonderosity,
in an ego-free, lets have a party and free the world kind of way,
little by little,
that's how the pyramids were built.
Adoring you all,
love,
linnyx

Yes, not all the time, but very often. I don't know why it can be seen sometimes but not always - any ideas?

Lynn, I see the outline including the "dark side" if you know what I mean. I can see all of it but only a certain part is illuminated. Perhaps it is normal, but anyone I've ever mentioned to doesn't seem to know what I mean and looks at me as if i'm not the full shilling * perhaps that's why we're all together on HH - cos we can see the whole of the moon and no-one else can

*translation for linny = a bit loopy

Could just picture this sweet little girl splaining to her mum....it make my heart melt.
