I went to Charlie's Funeral today.
It was a Humanist funeral which was his wishes.
They played some of his favourite songs and some poetry.
This was one of the poems read out.

Miss me - But let me go.

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me,

I want no tears in a gloom-filled room,

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little – But not for long

And not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared,

Miss me – But let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take,

And each must go alone,

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to your friends that we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good works,

Miss me – But let me go.

Thanks for that, Arfa. :)

I will print a copy and use it in the future.

An excellent poem, Arthur. I think I'd like that at my funeral too. The only thing I'd change would be "the Master's plan" to "the master plan".

I think it's very important to grieve for a while but then to let go; it stops souls hanging around here too long.

I went to post it on the Poetic Expressions website but it was already there.

See under 'Grief' here

It is a jolly good site for all sorts of situations.

Wot is there to be gloomy about?

It is all part of life and there is nothing we can do about it.

I want more than a humanist funeral. No priest, No black hearse - a white van will do - and if a funeral director even tries to walk solemnly in front of any vehicle he/she is to be shot. Definitely NO Black clothing and my funeral music (if there must be music) is to start with the Goons' 'I'm walking backwards for Christmas' Walking Backwards (that's my CD :D ) and to go out with The Goons' 'The Ying tong song' Ying Tong Song. CD is prepared and ready.

All details are with my will and on the Lasting Post website (also detailed in my will).

Paul - your family will be vindicted in their view that you were totally bonkers!!  But who cares - not you!

Yes Linny, it is what it is. But it must be this weather that makes us think about the day we pop off. I suppose I ought to make a will (not that I've much to leave to anyone!) & I've often thought about it but done nothing yet! I think the most important bit would be a post-mortem letter to my sons....you know, things I never said to them while alive. Hey ho.

I want something like that Paul.
I also want to have a mobile phone in my wicker basket, and during the service I want someone to ring it for me :D

Wicker basket, eh, Arfa???

My sister's wicker basket cost over £700.00 and that was in addition to the undertaker's 'standard' charges. :shocked!: If we had known we would have had a cardboard coffin.

And as regards the mobile phone, my sister nearly did the same as you want to - see this topic.

It will give everyone a good laugh, that is if they do as you wish.

Me too Paul :shocked!: I look at wool once and they have shot up in price.
It will have to be cardboard then for me. It must have surround sound though. :D
Thanks for the tip off.

I was just cruising through back posts with nothing on TV worth watching and I sadly came across the late Arfa's post, which made me think of my favourite song appropriate to death. I want it at my funeral, which will be very basic.

Thanks for that, Michael.

I wonder if Arfa DID have a phone inside his coffin and if anyone rang it.

Thank you Michael. For everything. Like the way you watch in the silence, charged with the essence of whatGoodThingMichaelIsThinking....and then you say it, and it a comfort and kind.
